This is a very old dance genre that originated during the 1920s and continued to evolve over the eras and become really popular at most dance circuits. Swing dance refers to not one style of dance, but a combination of dance styles starting from Lindy Hop to Rock and roll. These dances are performed on the swing style of jazz music. Most of these styles were created by the African American and Anglo-American societies. The swing era started with dance styles like Lindy Charleston, Lindy Hop, Balboa and Shag. During the 1940s, other dance forms evolved such as Jive, Modern Jive, Hand Dancing, West Coast Swing, East Coast swing, Rock ‘n’ roll and Boogie Woogie.

Lindy Hop dance was created in Harlem, New York City. This dance form was inspired or rather had movements of the Tap dance and Charleston. The Savoy Ballroom helped this dance style to reach the dance floor and made people aware of it. In this ballroom, there was no discrimination between any of the races. The first airlift movement was showcased to the audience during one of the performances. A special dance troupe was formed with the best Lindy Hop dancers that performed at the Savoy. This group was known as Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers. Performers of this dance form went on to showcase this dance in movies and television.

When it comes to swing dancing, Swing Dancing Lessons NYC has the best of dance studios and schools. These lessons are given to learners through three modes – online, regular and private classes. The expenses for all these lessons vary according to the choice of a learner.
